Just Don't Get It.

Didn't do much today except grocery shopping. Was tired out from yesterday's adventure at the Zoo LOL. It was a good day though.

Anyway I go to this one website that has to do with comparing schools and things. It isn't just for school parents though. Anyone that wants to keep up with what's going on and what not can be a part of it too. They have questions and answers where people can ask a question and other members can give them advice or tell them things they want to know. Anyway one woman posted a question on what kind of cell phone would be good for her eight year old.

Now granted I wouldn't buy my eight year old a cell phone but again that was the question asked. Man oh man were people judgemental. I don't get it. It was just a simple question. It wasn't controversial and buying a child a cell phone isn't going to scar them for life or hurt them. People were saying she was stupid or what are you thinking? Now I understand that people get upset with debates on spanking, abortion, politics, and religion but a cell phone? I just don't get it.

Why do some parents feel the need to talk down to other parents? Raising a child is hard and we all (and I do mean all!) make mistakes. Why tear someone else down for how they are raising their child? I mean if it's not going to hurt the child in some way why throw insults? I am not perfect by any means. I have had my fair share of mistakes.

It's every where though. Even inside of homeschooing there seems to be a better than you attitude. Not in every ones case of course but it is still there. I just don't get it. We all do what we think is best for our children so why should we judge someones for doing what they feel is best? I am not talking about cases of abuse or neglect but just in general. So what if I homeschool differently than someone else? Or who cares if one mom wants to get her eight year old child a cell phone for safety reasons (or any reason really)? Just drives me batty that people are constantly judging other's no matter how silly it is. This is probably another reason (other than moving a lot) I don't get super close to people. Yes I have friends but if we moved I would be ok with it. I would miss them don't get me wrong but I wouldn't be devastated.

I won't lie and say I have never judged anyone but I can say I have looked back and felt bad for those times that I have. I really try not to worry about what other people are doing or how they are raising their children as long as I am not seeing neglect or abuse. I think we mom's/parents all do what we feel is right for our children. We are all different and need and want different things. So let's agree that it's ok not to be perfect, it's ok that we don't parent/homeschool/public school/live/work the same way. We can still get along. Am I crazy for thinking like this? LOL.

Kaylie got her cell when she was 8 but only because at 10 a line it was cheaper to get her one than it was to keep a housephone at 32 when she's the only one who used it. its also monitored she just doesn't get to keep it with her at all times, it stays with me a good part of the time.

Jody,
you aren't crazy for thinking the way you think. In fact, I could have written that post myself!
I've been a mom for nearly 5 years now, and I have struggled a lot with my self esteem, especially regarding my housekeeping and mothering skills. It's hard to be a parent, and even harder if you feel the world is judging you for everything you do.

I agree with you, we parents should be the last ones to judge another parent's decision, unless it involves neglect or abuse.

Keep on being non-judgmental. It makes the people around you feel comfortable. =-)

Would I buy a cell phone for my 8 year old? I don't have one yet....

Yes, people judge too much. It's very sad. *sigh*
